Hi, I am Xu, a first year post-doctor in Truskey lab. Just the same as you thought, I came from China and got my Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. My past research was mainly focused on developing microfluidic technologies and biomimetic materials for engineering the 3D cellular microenvironment. During previous training periods, I gained experience in design/fabrication of microfluidic chip, culture/co-culture of mammalian cells in 3D, and interactional investigation between cells and matrix. Since October 2015, I start to work in Truskey lab and have an opportunity to participate in the program of Circulatory System and Integrated Muscle Tissue for Drug and Toxicity Testing. My work iinvolves force-testing tissue-engineered muscle bundles in situ and shrinking the culture system for both muscle bundles and vessels. I also collaborate with Jenny Chang to isolate and analyze red blood cell-white blood cell aggregates from the blood of sickle cell disease patients. Outside of the laboratory, I enjoy playing volleyball, walking, traveling, and reading science fiction.
