Current Poistion: House Staff, Surgery, Section of Surgical Disciplines
Hi I am Muath and I grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York. I attended Stony Brook University with a major in Biochemistry. After that I worked in a cardiac angiogenesis lab studying arteriogenesis in a mouse model, and completed my MPH with a focus on evaluative sciences. I then attended Medical School also at Stony Brook. I joined Duke in 2014 in the integrated cardiothoracic surgery residency. This program allows for protected research time. After completing 2 years of clinical time, I joined the Truskey labs as a PhD student in BME. My current work in the lab is focused on establishing a TEBV model for radiation injury to the cardiovascular system. This project has both a tissue engineering component, as well as a translational component with the Bowles lab in surgical sciences. Outside of tissue engineering I am also interested in mechanical circulatory support and device therapy for heart failure. When I am not radiating mice and TEBVs I enjoy dancing, soccer, photography and cooking.
