Lauren Covert, MD

Covert, MD

Second Year Rheumatology Fellow

I was born and raised in Pennsylvania. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Duke University, where I double majored in Biology and Visual Art. After undergraduate, I worked in Washington, DC in marketing for a healthcare research and consulting firm, prior to pursuing medicine at Georgetown School of Medicine. I completed residency in Internal Medicine & Pediatrics at the University of California San Diego and am now a Pediatric Rheumatology fellow at Duke. My work in the Truskey Lab is focused on developing an in vitro model of juvenile dermatomyositis, in order to discover pathogenic mechanisms of disease and potential therapeutic targets. In my free time, I enjoy reading novels, being active outdoors, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
