Graduate Mentor: Cristina Fernandez

I’m working with Cristina to co-culture skeletal muscle and endothelial cells by finding an optimal common medium, eventually looking to endothelialize the 3D muscle bundles. I’ll also look at how endothelialisation affects the muscle cells and bundles, hopefully improving their effectiveness as a physiological model. I joined the Truskey lab as a sophomore, and have really enjoyed my time here thus far! I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, and am involved in the debate and equestrian teams here at Duke. In my free time I enjoy napping on the Teer couches, taking full advantage of the food trucks, and hanging out with friends.
